How does the service work? For $8 per month MDISC will archive every photo and video you upload to a Google Photos account. There is no setup fee, and users can cancel at any time.
What if I don't have Google Photos? If you have a gmail account, you already have a Google Photos account. Check out this video to see how easy it is to install the app and desktop uploader https://youtu.be/nqIYu68ZiXo
Is there a limit to the amount of photos and video I can archive for $8 per month? The overall limit for our $8 plan is 1TB of data per year. If you plan to upload more than that in a year, we suggest you consider our Pro Plan, found at the top of the home page.
How much data will fit on a single MDISC? MDISCs can hold up to 50GB of data. This allows us to put a ton of images on a single disc, and keep the number of discs low.
What if I only take a few pictures each month? If there are too few images on any given month, MDISC will notify you that we are not sending a disc that month, and we'll credit your account with an extra month.
How long has MDISC been in business? MDISC was founded in 2009 and is known in the industry as the leader in archival-grade optical storage media.
Do you keep a copy of my data? Nope. After you place your order, we download your data to our servers so it can be burned to disc. Soon as we finish burning your monthly archive to disc, we delete your data from our system.
-
How is your process secure from hackers? We use industry best practices to keep your data safe from the time you sign in until you receive your discs in the mail. We use technologies like oAuth for account authentication, limit remote access to our servers and even design our packaging to ensure as high a level of security as possible.
-
Why does MDISC send a new disc every month? Once we've done your initial archive, we capture any new files you added or updated on a monthly basis, even if they don't fill an entire disc. Our aim is to insure nothing lost along the way.
-
What if I just want to archive annually, bi-annually, or quarterly? Right now, we only offer monthly subscriptions. However, you can cancel and restart as often as you like.
-
Can I choose the capacity or disc format of discs sent to me? Our system chooses the type of discs we send to you based on the amount of data you have to be archive. In general, we send your data on the fewest number of discs possible.
-
Can I order a duplicate copy of each disc? This feature is not currently available.
-
Is the service available outside the U.S.? For now the service is limited to US residents only. Soon we’ll be expanding to Canada, Mexico, and Europe.
-
When will my files be accessed for archiving? MDISC will start accessing and archiving data the same day you sign up. This date will become your monthly anniversary date for file access and archiving. If there is no data in your cloud service account, we’ll wait 24 hours before beginning.
What kind of drive will I need to read my archive? In order to access data on your MDISC archive, you’ll need an optical disc drive. Blu-ray data drives can read both MDISC DVD, and MDISC Blu-ray discs, and are recommended.
